IMAX FAQ
How often do IMAX® film selections change?
In general, a film runs for a year. To get advanced information and special offers for upcoming films, join the Liberty Science Center Insiders Club. You can also ask at the Welcome Desk for more information. | Join Here
Do you ever show films that are also shown in commercial movie houses?
No. In keeping with its mission, Liberty Science Center has chosen to screen films that are educationally enriching and show aspects of our world that we often cannot see in person. Our memorable films take viewers to fascinating lands, through remarkable ecosystems, and even into space.
How often do films run?
They are offered every hour from 9:15 am until 45 minutes before closing. Please check at the Welcome Desk, the Box Office or at 201.200.1000 for a schedule. | IMAX Showtimes
How long is each show?
Shows run 45 to 50 minutes.
Is there assigned seating?
No. We offer general admission. Please be sure to arrive at the theater 15 minutes before the start of your film.
What if I start to feel motion sick during the show?
Our screen is 88 feet in diameter, and the experience is so large and lifelike that a small number of people become queasy watching certain scenes. If that happens, simply close your eyes for a few moments.
Do the seats move?
No, the queasiness is caused by a visual reaction and not by actual motion.
Is there a staff member in the theater while the film is running?
Yes, you can see a staff member in the control booth on the right side of the theater, looking up from the front.
What if someone needs to leave during a show?
We do not recommend standing or walking during a film, as the scenes are sometimes dark and the theater is steeply pitched. If you do need to leave, wait until you can see clearly, then move to the aisle. You must exit at the top of the theater, and once you have left, we will be unable to readmit you.
Can we be admitted to the theater if we are a few minutes late?
No, we are sorry, but due to the reasons stated above, we cannot admit latecomers.
What ages are permitted in the IMAX Dome Theater?
Due to the large image size and dramatic footage, films in our theater can be overwhelming to small children, and we do not recommend them for children under 6. As a courtesy to other guests, children under the age of 2 are not permitted in the IMAX Dome Theater.
