Our Hudson Home: Narrators

Explore differing views about the Hudson River from the people who rely on it for everything from drinking water to recreation to their livelihoods -- people like you. Our Narrator Stations offer stories of the river from those who live and work on it, presenting multiple viewpoints on issues and topics that have the potential to affect us all. Visitors can weigh in with their own opinions and see how their views compare with others.

Your Challenge

Through Exhibit Commons, we invite people to submit their own dialogues related to important issues facing the harbor, wetlands and river. (Although our exhibition focuses on the Hudson, we’re open to submissions regarding rivers around the world.) We encourage you to submit jointly with someone who holds a different point of view in order to help fulfill the exhibit’s mission of presenting a variety of opinions.

Technical details

At the exhibit station, guests activate each program and view the selected dialogues on a large video monitor. Each dialogue features two people exchanging points of view on a topic. After the video ends, up to three questions are posed for the guest to answer by selecting from three possible responses to each question. The program accumulates responses from visitors and presents a breakdown of their opinions.

Instructions

  1. Create a written document (Word or Adobe pdf) that outlines the subject, the viewpoints and the individuals who are part of the video. Contact information for the individuals must be included in order to obtain consent from those filmed for use in the exhibition.
  2. Film your video dialogue, which must be concise and not exceed two minutes in length. Videos are to be submitted in Quicktime format. The audio should be in stereo.
  3. Create a second document (Word or Adobe pdf) that lists the questions you want us to ask at the conclusion of the video, and three possible responses for guests to choose from.
  4. Post your video to YouTube and click on the button below to fill out the submission form and direct us to your entry. Or you can send it by mail or e-mail. Here's how.
