Summer Institutes 2008

Our summer science programs for teachers offer one institute for each of the major disciplines of science taught in schools; chemistry, earth science, environmental science, life science and physics. Running for either three of four full days, each institute will include activities conducted by Liberty Science Center and our collaborative partners from science-rich institutions. This includes work on vessels provided by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Physics | June 25-27
Highlights: A day at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and studying skyscrapers during a Coast Guard tour.

Environmental Science | June 27-July 2
Highlights: Collecting water and sediment samples from the Passaic and Hudson rivers during a Coast Guard tour.

Chemistry | June 30-July 2
Highlights: “Green chemistry” at the Chemical Heritage Foundation and a tour of a local chemical manufacturing facility.

Life Science | July 14-17
Highlights: Programs on microbiology and the new end-of-course state test in biology.

Earth Science | August 4-6
Highlights: Data puzzles with Columbia’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and a Coast Guard tour to study the geology of the Hudson River Valley.

Each Institute costs $295, with a discount for early registration.
