Programs for Teachers
Liberty Science Center provides high-quality professional development for science teachers at all grade levels. Offered in the Jennifer A. Chalsty Center for Science Learning and Teaching, our programs focus on both content and methodology, helping teachers find ways to inspire their students through meaningful science learning.
Our presenters, all former public school teachers, science specialists or science supervisors, are dedicated to assisting teachers in preparing lessons with a special emphasis on guided inquiry. The activities we use can be presented to your students using readily available and inexpensive materials.
Professional Development
Summer Institutes 2008
Our summer science programs for teachers offer one institute for each of the major disciplines of science taught in schools; chemistry, earth science, environmental science, life science and physics. Several include time aboard a U.S. Coast Guard vessel.
Teacher Impact Workshops
Teachers will develop real-world, inquiry-based projects for their classrooms during half-day workshops that focus on practical science activities. Workshops cover everything from the weather to the nervous system and behavior.
Teacher Connection
This professional development program meets one Saturday each month to take a closer look at topics taught by educators throughout the region. Join for the year or attend single events focused on topics such as skyscrapers and robotic surgery.
Customized Workshops
Liberty Science Center will design workshops to fit the particular staff development goals of a school or district. These workshops can be conducted at the Science Center, at your location or via videoconferencing.
Full-Day Workshops
Our Full-Day Workshops focus on various aspects of teaching methodology and specific applications to science teaching.
